Students must complete two additional 300- 400 level humanities courses outside of the HLI discipline.

  • One course on a major author (e.g. HLI 331 – Shakespeare)

  • One course in American literature (e.g. HLI 117 – Colonial and Romantic American Literature)

  • One survey course from Classical to Renaissance OR Elizabethan to Modern (e.g. HLI 314 19th Century English Literature: Victorians)

  • One course in Modern Literature (e.g. HLI 118 Realist and Modern American Literature)

  • One course in Non-Western Literature (e.g. HLI 318 Caribbean Literature and Culture)

  • Five (5) additional courses in the HLI prefix

Students must complete eight (8) additional elective courses, chosen by the student, which may be used to satisfy minor, double major, or dual-degree requirements.

Students must complete five (5) courses in one or more disciplines outside of the major program of study, including (but not limited to) engineering management, physics, chemistry, computer science, marketing analytics, or another discipline within HASS. These courses may be used to satisfy minor, double major, or dual-degree requirements.

Students must complete one (1) semester (at least 3 credits) of mathematics. Note that 2-credit math courses run for half a semester and are taken in pairs (MA 110 + MA 112 = one semester, 4 credits). Choose from

  • MA 110 – Linear Algebra for Business Liberal Arts (2 cr.)

  • MA 111 – Calculus I for Business and Liberal Arts (2 cr.)

  • MA 112 – Calculus II for Business and Liberal Arts

  • MA 121 – Differential Calculus (2 cr.)

  • MA 122 – Integral Calculus (2 cr.)

  • MA 125 – Vectors and Matrices (2 cr.)

  • MA 126 – Multivariable Calculus (2 cr.)

  • BT 221 – Statistics

Students must complete one (1) science course. Completing the lab portion of the course will carry an additional credit. Choose from the following

  • CE 240 – Introduction to Geosciences

  • CH prefix – any course, level 100-499

  • BIO prefix – any course, level 100-499

  • PEP prefix – any course, level 100-499

Students must complete one (1) course from the following

  • CS 105 – Introduction to Scientific Computing

  • CS 115 – Introduction to Computer Science (4 cr.)

  • HAR 271 – Creative Programming

  • CS 181 – Introduction to Computer Science Honors I

Students must complete the following courses to prepare for and execute their senior thesis projects.

  • HST / HQSS 301 – Research Design and Methods

  • HASS 498 – Thesis Preparation

  • HASS 499 – Senior Thesis (4 cr.)
