Program Description

The Master of Science in Construction Engineering and Management degree prepares construction engineers and managers, civil engineers, architects and other professionals in the built environment to lead efforts in planning, constructing, and managing society’s buildings, green infrastructure, and utility projects in addition to endeavors yet-to-be- envisioned such as implementing construction of facilities for alternative energy distribution and global megaprojects. Courses will develop technical, managerial and leadership expertise through advanced areas of study and initiatives including experiential learning and engagement with industry. Both full and part-time graduate students can take advantage of the flexible curriculum designed to fit into the busy schedule as some classes are offered online.

For students with an undergraduate degree in construction engineering and management, civil engineering, architecture, or other professionals, the program educates students for careers in Construction Engineering and Management requiring advanced and specialized knowledge and ability.

Program Outcomes

Core Knowledge: Integrated Construction Engineering and Management: Students will demonstrate advanced knowledge in planning and executing a built environment project. Specifically, students will be able to: 

  • exhibit consistent use of integrative thinking.

  • demonstrate project management utilizing advanced cost, time, quality and safety controls.

  • demonstrate basic concepts in Construction Engineering and Management, business, public policy, and leadership.

  • analyze potential project risks. 

Research Methods and Analysis: Students will demonstrate quantitative and qualitative skills used in conducting research in the construction engineering and management field. Specifically, students will: 

  • demonstrate the use of data gathering methods.

  • demonstrate the use of data analysis techniques. 

Scholarly Communication: Students will produce high quality written and oral communications. 

Professionalism: Students will know and participate in the intellectual and organizational aspects of the profession as applicable to the built environment industry, including ethical conduct.
