Program Description

A minor in Mathematics can be a valuable qualification for students concentrating in other areas such as Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or Business. As many as four of the six courses may be double counted toward both a minor and major program, assuming that the major accepts those four courses. Students wishing to pursue a minor in Mathematics should speak with their academic advisor and submit a request to add the minor via Workday Student.

Program Objectives

This program prepares students to:

  1. Engage in abstract mathematical reasoning, thereby improving logical and critical thinking skills

  2. Gain deeper knowledge in the field of mathematics

  3. Apply mathematics to problems related to their primary area of study

Student Outcomes

By the time of graduation, students will be able to:

  1. Use important definitions and theorems across core branches of mathematics

  2. Apply mathematical reasoning, theories, and techniques to analyze and solve problems in mathematics, science, engineering, and business

  3. Construct complex mathematical arguments from previously acquired knowledge, and bring together knowledge from different areas of mathematics to analyze and solve mathematical problems
