Applying for Admissions

Admission to Stevens is a process designed to ensure that you have an accurate picture of the opportunities and challenges offered by a Stevens education, and that the Admissions Committee has enough information to assess your potential for success. With these goals in mind, several measures are used in making Admissions decisions.

High School Transcript

The most important criterion in our decision to admit you as a first-year student is your academic performance in high school. (If you are already studying at the college level and wish to apply for admission to transfer to Stevens, submit an official copy of all high school transcripts and college transcripts.) Your high school record should show strong performance in the following areas:

For Engineering, Computer Science and Applied Sciences:

• Four years of English.

• Four years of mathematics (one year of algebra, one year of geometry, one year of pre-calculus, and one year of calculus).

• Three years of science (biology, chemistry, and physics).

For Business:

• Four years of English.

• Four years of mathematics (two years of algebra, one year of geometry, and one year of pre-calculus). Applicants to the Quantitative Finance program should have more extensive preparation in high school math with one year of calculus.

• Three years of science (two of which must include biology, chemistry or physics).

For Humanities:

• Four years of English.

• Three years of mathematics (two years of algebra and one year of geometry). Applicants to the science, technology and society program should have more extensive preparation in high school math with one year of pre-calculus.

• One year of science (either physics, chemistry or biology).  Applicants to the science, technology and society program should have more extensive preparation in high school science with three years of science (biology, chemistry and physics).

For Accelerated Pre-Medicine Program:

• Four years of English.

• Four years of college prep mathematics

• Three years of science (biology, chemistry, and physics).

• Strongly encourage to pursue AP Biology and AP Chemistry, if possible.

• Achieve a combined SAT score of 1400 (critical reading and math) or ACT composite of 32 in one sitting.  Standardized tests must be completed prior to the November 1 application deadline, and results must be submitted to Stevens via the testing agency to be considered in our review. 

Please have your school counselor submit an official copy of your transcript.

College Entrance Examinations

Stevens Institute of Technology is extending the SAT/ACT test optional policy, with some exceptions through Fall 2029.

The test optional plan requires applicants to indicate if they will submit test scores on their application for admission. Those who choose to do so may self-report test scores with the understanding that officially submitted test scores from the appropriate testing agency are required for enrollment.

The test optional plan does not eliminate the need for demonstrated language proficiency. Non-native English-speaking students will still be required to submit results from an English language proficiency exam (TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, SAT EBRW or Duolingo).

If you are applying to our Accelerated Pre-Medicine or Pre-Law programs, test scores must still be submitted.

Personal Interview

The option to interview is available to all students applying for undergraduate admission. Applicants should register online for an available interview time either in-person or virtually. Interviews are to be completed prior to the deadline for the respective application plan an applicant intends to apply for. Interviews can be conducted in-person or virtually.

The Accelerated Pre-Medicine program requires a separate interview as one component of the application process; however, they can still participate in a Stevens interview. Stevens will contact select applicants for the Accelerated Pre-Med program to schedule an interview following an initial review of their application. Not all applicants are guaranteed an interview for the Accelerated Pre-Med program. All interviews for the Accelerated Pre-Med program take place virtually and are facilitated by the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS).

School Counselor/Teacher Evaluations

We require all applicants to submit at least one teacher evaluation and one school counselor evaluation, so we can learn more about your academic and personal qualities, as well as your potential of becoming a successful Stevens student. You will find the appropriate evaluation forms in your application.

Written Statement

At Stevens, we invite you to share more about yourself with the Admissions Committee through the Personal Statement. Please complete this written essay as part of your application to Stevens.

Part-time and Evening Study for Non-Traditional Students

Stevens does not offer the opportunity to pursue an undergraduate degree by attending part-time and/or solely in the evening. If you want to pursue an undergraduate degree, you can do so on a full-time basis only, and you must register for at least 12 credit hours per semester to be considered a full-time student.
