Program Description

The Photonics minor covers the core areas of modern optical technology. It is suited for students in engineering and science who wish to pursue a career in industries that utilize or develop optical technologies. It is available to all majors, with the exception of those declaring Photonics concentration in the physics major.

Program Objectives

This program prepares students to:

  1. Obtain a broad knowledge of the photonics industry

  2. Incorporate the analytical and technical skills into their future endeavor, even if it may not be directly related to photonics

  3. Have the foundation to pursue further education or career opportunities in the field

Student Outcomes

By the time of graduation, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the operating principles of optical instrument

  2. Setup experiments to demonstrate the wave and particle nature of light

  3. Create simple design of practical applications of light such as telescope, or 3d theater
