Program Description

The minor in Astronomy is available to all students including those majoring in Physics, except physics majors doing Astrophysics concentration. It is suitable for both students who are fascinated by astronomy and simply wish to learn more about the field as well as for those who wish to pursue graduate studies in astronomy or astrophysics.

Program Objectives

This program prepares students to:

  1. Go on to grad school and beyond in the field of astronomy or related fields

  2. Find an industry career doing astronomy related research or using the skills to solve practical problems

  3. Be advocate of astronomy and promote interest in the broader community

Student Outcomes

By the time of graduation, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of natural celestial phenomena

  2. Model celestial phenomena using mathematical and physical knowledge

  3. Explain the operating principles of key instruments used in gathering astronomical data
