Introduction to Engineering Design & Systems Thinking

Mechanical Engineering (Program)Engineering and Science

Course Description

ENGR 111 is the first course in the Stevens Design Spine sequence, introducing first-year engineering students to real-world design challenges through hands-on experience with the engineering design process. Students apply engineering principles to analyze and solve practical design problems, developing systems thinking and problem-solving skills while considering how individual components interact within larger systems. Using SolidWorks (CAD) and 3D printing technologies, students create and prototype their designs, and gain exposure to Arduino programming, digital circuits, and software integration to connect mechanical and electronic components. Team-based projects and class activities further strengthen communication, collaboration, and leadership skills essential to engineering practice.
