HASS Experiential Learning
Course Description
HASS Experiential Learning provides HASS-majoring students the opportunity to gain short-term professional experience that emphasizes hands-on involvement and learning. Students are encouraged to develop new skills, try out a career, and combine academic theory with practice. HASS Experiential Learning is an independent and individually-initiated program of study and work arranged between 1) a HASS-majoring student, 2) an institution, organization, or business (represented by an organizational mentor), and 3) a HASS faculty sponsor. HASS Experiential Learning requires a plan (prepared with and signed by the organizational mentor) to be presented to a HASS faculty sponsor outlining the scope of the work. It is expected that the time commitment will run approximately 112 to 168 hours per academic session for the equivalent of 3 credits. The student will receive academic credit based on their full participation and the receipt of the required academic components detailed in the syllabus. These components will be reviewed by the student’s faculty sponsor and evaluated for a grade for this course.
Does not fulfill humanities requirements; may be taken as a general elective.
