Sports Economics

Course Description

This course explores the application of economic theory and analysis to various aspects of the sports industry, including industrial organization, public finance, and labor markets. Students will gain a better understanding of how teams and leagues maximize profit, monopoly power in sports, the relationship the teams and leagues have with state and local governments, how wages are determined, and diversity, equity, and inclusion in the context of sports. This course also covers introductory finance topics, such as revenue generation, cost structure, and financial statement analysis. No expertise in sports is required.
