Afrofuturism
Humanities and Social Sciences (Program)Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences
Course Description
This interdisciplinary course explores how artists working in diverse media have engaged Afrofuturism, an alternative vision of the future as presented through a Black cultural lens. Students will be exposed to engagements of Afrofuturism in fiction, cinema, art, and music. Students will also consider how Afrofuturism offers an alternative vision of technoculture than the one provided by more traditional - and often hegemonic - narratives and practices.
