Course Description
In this course, students will learn about the research published on diversity and inclusion in sociology and related fields. The course material explores why it is important to address diversity and inequality issues in different contexts and what challenges have been encountered by researchers and those who attempt to create diversity programming. Students will then examine theoretical perspectives and research findings shared by experts in the field. Finally, students will apply what they have learned to analyze and evaluate programs and efforts addressing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging at different levels. While most readings are drawn from social sciences (e.g., sociology and psychology), the course material also includes perspectives and discussions from other fields, including business research and medical research.
